The Washington Dragon Boat Association and The Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Commission are proud to announce the 2010 Rainier Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Thea’s Park in Tacoma, WA.

The Festival is sanctioned by the Pacific Dragon Boat Association USA.

The race is open to all teams and features 500-meter races for mixed, women’s and open teams.

The Rainier Dragon Boat Festival is held on the Foss Waterway in downtown Tacoma.  Enjoy fast racing on the salt waters of Puget Sound, featuring views of snow-capped Mt. Rainier to the east and the spectacular Olympic Mountains to the west.  Visit Tacoma, the City of Destiny, nestled in the heart of the Pacific Northwest and the cultural center of the South Puget Sound Region.

NEW IN 2010!

The Rainier Dragon Boat Festival is partnering with USA Dragon Boating to manage the finish line operations in May.  

USADB uses a combination of customized software, video and computer networks to determine, record and post race finishes in a fast, accurate manner.  Manual timing systems are a back up to our computerized timing system that can accurately time a race to thirty-three-hundredths of a second, eliminating all but the tightest of ties.  Photo finishes can be replayed and printed to back-up the official decision.  Finish line software captures video images and times and transmits them to the race bracketing or race grid software, allowing results to be printed and posted before crews even are off the water.
